With 67 submissions from 15 different villages, the competition took place on Mindoro’s most popular tourist pier on November 16, 2011.

The Mangyan Sustainability Project works with the Mangyan people to develop housing prototypes that preserve the best traditional building design, techniques and architecture, while incorporating basic necessary advancements in dwelling construction.

For generations, the dense tropical rainforests of the Philippine island of Mindoro have been home to 7 tribes of people collectively called the Mangyan.

Not only are the Mangyan physically and socially isolated from the rest of the Filipino population, but they are also among the poorest and most marginalized.
